We understand the challenges that a House Mentor faces every day, and we have many programs in place to support and encourage them – not only as a mentor, but as a man or woman in recovery themself. We have a comprehensive training program to equip them in handling guest concerns, house emergencies, and in their leadership of the recovery environment in the home. House Mentors and staff lead and support each sober living home; helping to ensure a positive recovery environment for all guests.
One of the changes I expect to make in the circuit court is to ensure we make actual progress during court hearings and give parties sufficient time to prepare. We must become more efficient for the parties, the litigants and the community at large. Hatfield represented Evansville in the Indiana House of Representatives from 2016 through this year’s session – when he announced his intention to run for circuit court judge – while also maintaining a private legal practice.

Are there better ways of doing it, or better ways of managing those cases to determine what’s likely to go to trial and what’s not? Absolutely, and I will be in communication with the prosecutor’s office and the public defender’s office. I’ve had some of those conversations already about ways that we can accomplish this. Sober homes offer an opportunity for men and women in recovery to live together and support each other while pursuing a new life in recovery. Sober houses offer an important service to individuals in early recovery. Independent living is difficult, and sober housing offers an attractive alternative to many options available to men and women in early recovery. Ultimately, if there was going to be a change that was made, that would require some logistics, and so you want to make sure that if there was going to be a change made, that you have something that’s set up — and that may take time to accomplish. But, I’m definitely open to hearing from other businesses or service providers who would be willing to provide those monitoring services at a reduced rate to defendants and the county. EVANSVILLE — Vanderburgh County’s two candidates for circuit court judge, Ryan Hatfield and Molly Briles, sat down with the Courier & Press to answer questions about what they plan to bring to the bench if elected in November. The judges are going to be the deciders of whether that evidence is scientifically reliable or not, so it is important for us to have a basic understanding of how these tools work. We are generally prohibited from doing independent research into these kinds of evidentiary issues. It’s good to have a solid foundation, but ultimately, it’s going to come down to the evidence that’s presented in any given case.
